Brief History
In 1976 Liberace commissioned David John
Mega to create what he termed a “Bicentennial Salute” utilizing his 1954
Silver Dawn drop top. The theme of course would be red, white and blue in the
stars and stripes motif. Mega and Liberace agreed that thirteen stars to
represent the original thirteen colonies were to be placed down both sides of
the Rolls Royce and covered with rhinestones. Liberace further requested that
the kneeling “Spirit of Ecstasy “ which graced his particular model be paved
with the same Austrian crystal rhinestones that were
used in all his famous cape designs.
After completion of the automobile, which can still be
viewed at the Liberace Museum in Las Vegas Nevada, Mega set about making an
artwork using the standing “Spirit of Ecstasy” adorned with Swarovski
Austrian crystals which he titled “ THE LADY OF LIGHT“.
"The Lady of Light"
From the original Liberace commission which used the
“Kneeling Lady”, Mega went on to fashion a “Standing Lady” cast in
German Silver, paved with over one thousand Swarovski Austrian crystals, and
placed upon an original design crystal base. This revolving and lighted
sculpture was showcased in another equally impressive work reminiscent of
classic Edwardian motif and enhanced by inlays of Carpathian Elm burl and Zebra
wood veneers.
A reproduction of this artwork is available by commission
only and finished in color and appointment as to the client’s choice.
