Art Inspired by the Rolls-Royce Marque
| Although the Rolls Royce is an automobile, it has become
synonymous with art by virtue of its quality and aesthetics. The often quoted
precept of Sir Frederick Henry Royce can certainly be applied both to his
creation and to the field of art…” The quality remains when the price is long
forgotten”. One does not know nor care the cost of painting the Mona Lisa or
sculpting the Pieta, the fact that they exist and possess a timeless beauty are
testament to the passion of their creators. To people who love fine automobiles as well as fine art, the
Rolls Royce is truly and inspiration. Through a lifetime of involvement in both
fields, the artist David John Mega has produced a number of works in varied
media from painting, sculpture, photography and jewelry – all influenced by the
mystique of a timeless international cultural symbol… the Rolls Royce motorcar.

"A Visit
from a Rich Uncle"
It is springtime in Appalachia. To the solidly built, colorful abode
of the country nephew arrives the city dwelling, affluent rich uncle. Is
it the late 1950’s when the Cloud I Rolls Royce was new? Or is the
uncle a collector of fine vintage automobiles?

Sledge Fantasy"
Does this photograph capture the angst of an antiroyalist or
simply reflect a fanciful notion of rebellious behavior? The Queens Crest on

for the artwork “the Queens Tea Table “. Artist David John Mega having acquired
the Rolls Royce radiator surround after it had received minor damage upon the
Queen’s visit to Bermuda in 1976 fashioned a formal and elegant, as well as
functional sculpture befitting High Tea with the Queen.

"The Lady of Light"
From the original Liberace commission which used
the “Kneeling Lady”, Mega went on to fashion a “Standing Lady” cast in German
Silver, paved with over one thousand Swarovski Austrian crystals, and placed
upon an original design crystal base. This revolving and lighted sculpture was
showcased in another equally impressive work reminiscent of classic Edwardian
motif and enhanced by inlays of Carpathian Elm burl and Zebra wood veneers.
